A short story I wrote in high school.

I studied both Ancient and Modern History, and was struck eventually by the question, ‘What would it have actually been like to be an infantrymen in a Roman legion?’

I had seen 300 like every 17 year old boy had at the time, but understood the stylisation, while very entertaining, wasn’t reflective of those events as I understood them. I wanted to see if I could imagine and record one of these battles from the perspective of a soldier, in the way more contemporary conflicts in history have been.

I dug this work up recently, was surprised that for the most part it was somewhat legible, brushed it up a little, to put on here, on record.
