Painting (2025)

This is a short series of monochromatic portraits I painted throughout the year of 2025

As part of the long slow effort to broaden my horizons as a visual artist, I decided to dip my toes into painting, and was sucked quickly down the rabbit hole.

Without setting out on any particular project, other than to explore the medium, I bounced from subject to subject, style to style.

Temporarily I was struck by a rare (for me) muse, portraits in monochrome, usually of plaster casts.

The paintings turned out quite well, and are coherent as a short series; reflecting some sort of turmoil I must have been experiencing at the time. The temperamental acrylic resulted in a jaggedness which I enjoy.
